I grew up in Sweetgrass First Nation, surrounded by elders who taught through stories.
One story that’s stayed with me came from my Kokum, my grandmother.
She told me to picture life as a long road.
Every step we take is part of our lifeline here on Earth.
Along that road, we’ll meet people who help us, test us, or try to pull us off our path.
And we’ll face events—some joyful, some painful—that shape who we become.
My Kokum said that when challenges appear, we must step back and ask:
“What am I meant to learn in this moment?”
Because every obstacle carries a hidden teaching.
Yet so often, when something goes wrong, our first thought is, “Why me?”
We focus on the problem instead of the lesson.
But what if life’s challenges aren’t happening to us—they’re happening for us?
Every delay, disappointment, or detour might be life’s way of protecting us or preparing us for something greater.
When we shift our mindset from frustration to curiosity, we begin to walk our lifeline with purpose.
Learning from every step.
Guided by the wisdom of those who walked before us.
